For Jaya Vidyasagar ,music is a divine medium and a gift from the Supreme Power which is to be used to spread peace. She feels this passion helps to connect to the inner self.
Her greatest inspiration is her Guru - Smt. Veena Sahasrabuddhe , renowned vocalist of the Gwalior gharana- learning from whom she considers a blessing.
As a Student of Music
With a formal music education since the age of 5, she started training with Carnatic classical under the guidance of Ms. Saraswathi Vaidyanathan, daughter of renowned Carnatic vocalist Sri Vaidyanatha Bhagawathar. She gave her first concert performance at the age of 8. Over a period of time she also had training from various renowned Gurus in the Carnatic Field.
Her exposure to Hindustani classical music and her attraction for performing Bhajan Sandhyas drew her to formally learn Hindustani classical music from renowned Gurus. Smt. Vatsala Rao - who had spent some time learning under Smt. Mogubai Kurudikar, renowned vocalist of the Jaipur Atrauli Gharana was her first Guru. Under her guidance , she trained to understand the fine nuances of hindustani classical music.
While in high school she also got the opportunity to explore the beautiful Rabindra sangeet and Nazrul Geeti, having received training for a while. For a short period of time she was taken in as a student by Late Shri John David , a renowned performing artist in Vintage music and founder - Swardhaan , to be trained by him in light music.
As a Performer
With a wide exposure to different cultures and genres ,her Bhajan Sandhayas would include songs in different languages, some of which she can speak fluently as well - Hindi, Tamil , Marathi, Telugu ,Bengali, Gujrati, Kannada and Sanskrit.
A concert performer, having done numerous Bhajan Sandhyas at various prestigious stages like the Shanmukhananda in Mumbai, She also had the honor of performing in the presence of the former Prime Minister of India, Shri Atal Behari Vajpayee and the entire cabinet Ministry in New delhi for the Kanchi Festival. She also had the privilege of performing in the presence of Former Presdient Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam on a few occasions in Mumbai as well as in Rakjot. She won the hearts of few of the public figures she performed in the presence of , some of whom included the likes of former Governors and Chief Minister of Maharashtra , Parliamentarians, Noted writers , social activists, heads of missions etc.
She has performed in the presence of saints and heads of missions like the Shankaracharyas of Kanchi and Shringeri, Swami Dayanand Saraswati, Sri Rameshbhai Ojha , Dada J.P Vaswani to name a few.
Since 2018, she has started an annual concert series called 'Songs of My Heart' with an ensemble of musicians in the Bay Area. This show explores various genres spanning from classical - semi classical - devotional - fusion - popular film music and in different languages.
Academics
Academically, though being a college topper , gold medalist, with an MBA- Finance background, she found her true calling in music and quit a professional career to concentrate on learning , teaching and immersing herself more into the world of music and art. Extremely supportive and encouraging parents are her backbone and strength that led her to further believe in her dreams and aspirations.
Teaching
She loves interacting with children , and has spent considerable time conducting workshops in contemporary music and self development for children of varying age groups. Currently, she runs the Swaralay School of Music in the Bay Area, California and has been imparting the musical art to students of varying age groups ranging from 4 - 65.

She also has several collaborations with different musicians and has a few notable independent music records which are available on Spotify, Amazon, iTunes, Google Play Music and other digital media to her credit. Notable of these are the spiritual chants and mantras ones she's produced on her own, and some under the record label Sonore Unison , music composed by an India based composer Rishi S. They have collaborated to come out with a meditative music album- 'Spiritual Bites 'and a tamil album 'Vidiyal' .
She considers the gift of this beautiful art as a blessing and feels its a never ending process of learning and will always remain a student of music.
